描述	Abietic acid is the primary component of resin acid, is the primary irritant in pine wood and resin, isolated from rosin (via isomerization) and is the most abundant of several closely related organic acids that constitute most of rosin, the solid portion of the oleoresin of coniferous trees.

In vitro(体外研究)	Abietic acid has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting expression of genes involved in inflammation such as those for tumor necrosis factor-a and cyclooxygenase 2 in lipopolysaccharide-induced macrophages. Abietic acid regulates PPARγ target gene expression in RAW 264.7 macrophages and 3T3L adipocytes. It can be used for regulating lipid metabolism and atherosclelosis. Abietic acid is a PPARγ ligand and that its anti-in£ammatory effect is partly due to the activation of PPARγ in stimulated macrophages. In lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated macrophages, abietic acid suppresses production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) in vitro and in vivo.
In vivo(体内研究)	Abietic acid has an antiobesity effect in mice mediated by the regulation of adipogenesis.
